woman opening a holiday gift

It could be for your mom, sister, friend, aunt, girlfriend, spouse, cousin— heck it could even be you! —buying gifts is always difficult. And, of course, we’re smack dab in the middle of the holiday season where everyone is exchanging gifts with their family, friends, coworkers, kids’ teachers, etc.

Let’s be honest, not everyone loves to buy gifts. We love giving something to someone and making them happy, but the stress and pressure of finding the “perfect” gift for someone is HARD!

Don’t worry this year, we’ve got your back. We’ve put together four gift ideas for her, laced with tips and tricks for selecting a gift for the woman/women in your life this year.

Before we begin, it’s important to note that the amount you spend on a gift is irrelevant. It truly is the thought that counts. The fact that you spend time thinking of her and what she wants, (not what you think she will want), will mean the world to her.

Gift #1: Gratitude

Gratitude improves our health, relationships, emotions, and personality according to HappierHuman. Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D., a leading gratitude researcher, conducted multiple studies on the link between gratitude and well-being, showing that gratitude effectively increases happiness and reduces depression.

We all love to know we are appreciated and loved. I’m sure you’re grateful for the special woman(en) in your life, but have you told them exactly why you’re grateful for them?

An Australian survey of university freshmen asked “who is the most important and influential person you’ve ever known?” 40% said their moms are the most influential person they’ve ever known.

This year, let the woman(en) close to you know how much you care about them! This can be difficult for some of us who are not wordsmiths, so here’s a couple of questions to get you started:

  • What do you appreciate about her?
  • Tell her about a time when she did something you loved.
  • How would you describe her in 5 words? Now expand on those words with examples.
  • What specific qualities does she possess that make her unique?
  • What are her unique character traits that you admire?
  • How has she impacted you and your life? Those around her? The world?

Remember: you don’t have to write her a letter! You can also sing, rap, draw, paint, dance, make a video, (like this famous one from Love Actually), etc. Get creative and find how you are most comfortable expressing yourself.

Gift #2: Free Time

While this applies to every single woman, it can be extra special for moms. Life is busy for all of us, but extra busy for women juggling parenthood. The gift of free time is priceless.

The Daily Mail wrote that the average mom has JUST 17 minutes of “me time” to themselves each day. We just don’t think that is enough for any woman, especially a mom.

Already, women have 40 minutes less time off than men. This year, give her the gift of free time and self-care by intentionally setting aside time just for her.

Free time could literally be just that—unscheduled, unstructured time for her to do with whatever she pleases. You can help by offering to watch the kids (if she’s a mom), do laundry, cook a meal, tidy up, etc. Or, you can give her a gift certificate to the spa, for a massage, for dinner, to her favorite clothing or book store, etc. Find out what she likes to do, and where she likes to do it, and then do everything possible to make sure she has the free time to make it happen, on her terms.

Gift #3: Confidence-Boosters

Confidence is about feeling good—mentally, physically and emotionally. Boosting your confidence can be as easy as smiling more to hitting the gym for the incredible endorphins.

“Even just one trip to the gym increases positive feelings about your body,” psychiatrist Laura Berman, author of The Book of Love, told Allure magazine.

Confidence is how you feel about yourself—or in this case, how she feels about herself. It can be a sensitive and subjective topic. One important aspect is how she feels about her body.

There are many confidence boosters in the aesthetics and personal care world: from facials, massages and blowouts to CoolSculpting and Botox, to Mommy Makeovers.  Some treatments involve surgery to add, subtract or adjust, others use non-surgical devices to stimulate collagen growth. People usually associate collagen renewal with the face, but collagen isn’t just in your face.

There are new collagen-boosting treatments for women’s intimate health. Research published in the Journal of Women’s Health, shows that Cryogen Cooled Monopolar Radiofrequency (CMRF) therapy is, “associated with statistically significant and clinically important improvements in sexual function in women with vaginal laxity.

After all, it’s not just about appearance but how you feel.

If you decide to gift her a confidence procedure, check out RealSelf, a worldwide review site for elective medical treatments. It includes patient and doctor reviews, and a wide range of treatments. If she is interested, this site can help her find whatever treatment she likes. This year, think procedures not pearls!

Ultimately, only she can decide what makes her feel beautiful, and feel her best. Whether it’s free time to meditate or go to a workout class or go to a consultation about a medical treatment, it’s all about what makes her feel confident.

As the famous Sophia Loren said, “Beauty is how you feel inside.”

Gift #4: Experiences

Okay, before you start sweating and worrying that we are going to tell you to buy her a luxurious 2-week vacation in the Virgin Islands, let me assure you, we are not.

Huffington Post says that having new experiences can help us overcome fear, get to know ourselves better and stimulate creativity. You can help her have a new experience this year without breaking your piggybank.  Gift her a Groupon for painting classes, Taekwondo, yoga, Spanish lessons, Skydiving, a cooking class, etc.

Anything new, challenging and exciting for her! Pick a new experience for the mind, body and soul. A workout class for her body, a language class for her mind, and a Wine and Canvas class for the soul.

Neuroscientists say that having new experiences break the pattern of monotony and help our brains absorb the experience deep down, making us feel the value of each moment.

Wrapping it up

(Like that gift pun? We do.) Google “Gift Ideas For Her” and you’ll get 3.7 million ideas. We’ve given you the short, sweet and condensed version. But whatever gift you give her this season, make it thoughtful and unique. Spend time thinking about her and what she wants.

Or, when in doubt, ask her straight up what she wants for Christmas—you can’t go wrong with that.
